My name is Ace. I was about 14 weeks old and living in a dirty manufacturing plant. It was dark and dirty and my fur was covered with an oily residue. I had gotten sick when I was just a few weeks old. The eye infection in my right eye never went away. Then one day, my eye ruptured. I couldn't see out of that eye and it hurt so badly!
In January, some women from Friends of Feral Cheshire Cats (FFCC) came to the plant to humanely catch me and the other cats who lived there. That is when things started to "look up" for me. They took us all to the clinic to have us spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The veterinarian could see that my eye was causing me to be in terrible pain and recommended that it be removed. He also said that I couldn't go back to the plant because I needed to recover and grow strong. Even though it cost lots of money and I was no one's pet, FFCC wanted to help me! I could not believe it!
I had the surgery and went to live with one of the volunteers so that I can recover. Everyone was so nice and kind to me. It was wonderful, especially since I wasn't looking my best. I needed daily cleanings to get the oil off my coat and my eye was stitched and swollen from the surgery. And I have to admit, I was really scared! I hid in my bed for days.
But now I have enough to eat and toys to play with! I have met some other kitten friends who had fallen on hard time, but were also helped by FFCC. People are not so scary to me. It is sad that there are so many animals in need, but something wonderful is happening to help us!
