| HELP CALVIN HEAL!
UPDATE:
Calvin had surgery to remove his leg on July 28th. He is back in his foster home and well on his way to recovery! Calvin is confined to his crate when not supervised, but is able to walk quite well when he is out for exercise! He is even able to jump from the floor to a chair (which is not supposed to do right now, but nothing can damper his spirits). Calvin is alert, energetic and seems happier than he has been in a long time! Thanks to all who came to his aid with donations for his surgery!!!
Friends of Feral Cheshire cats supporters were first introduced to Calvin last summer. Calvin was near death when rescued by FFCC. He had internal injuries and severe nerve damage to his right front leg. For almost nine months, the cause of Calvin's injuries remained a mystery. However, FFCC has learned through a series of events that Calvin's injuries were intentional and that he was a victim of abuse. Calvin miraculously survived, but never recovered full use of his right leg, which remains bent at a 90 degree angle. It has now been determined that the best course of action for this young, active cat, will be amputation of his leg. The decision was made because his leg is becoming more of a liability to his health than an asset. He will need to learn to walk and balance again, but the prognosis is that Calvin will enjoy a long and happy life.
Friends of Feral Cheshire Cats is a non-profit organization that provides a feral cat trap-neuter-return service to the Cheshire, CT area - at no cost to the towns or residents. Because the work is with feral cats that may never be seen or touched by the residents and business owners, the full impact of the service often goes unnoticed. FFCC has spayed/neutered over 1200 feral cats over the last three years. Whenever possible, FFCC aids in the rescue of friendly cats, although they do not operate a shelter and receive no public funding. Hundreds of friendly cats and kittens have been taken off the streets and have been placed in permanent, loving homes. The organization is run by volunteers and is sustained by private donation.
FFCC is asking for help in raising funds to help with Calvin's surgery. Tax-deductible donations to help cover the cost of Calvin's surgery may be send to Friends of Feral Cheshire Cats, P.O. Box 946, Cheshire, CT 06410 or can be made by secure online donation.
