| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
1. What is a feral cat? Feral cats are born outdoors and have little or no human contact and are therefore unsocialized. Feral cats may also be stray or abandoned cats who lived outside long enough to have reverted to a wild state. Adult feral cats usually cannot be tamed and are most content living outside. Feral kittens up to five or six weeks of age, on the other hand, can often be tamed and placed in homes.

2. What is Trap-Neuter-Return? Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which feral cats are humanely trapped, evaluated, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, and sterilized by veterinarians. These cats are ear-tipped to indicate that they have been sterilized and are returned to their familiar habitat and are provided with long-term care by volunteers. Returning cats to their familiar habitat is the best course of action. Removing these cats would allow un-sterilized, un-vaccinated cats to move into the area to take advantage of the food source that attracted the original cats. These cats pose no threat to humans. |
